Online Ticket Payment Program
Welcome to the Vermilion Municipal Court's Online Ticket Payment Program. Eligible traffic citations may now be paid online as part of our ongoing effort to provide convenient and efficient services.
Paying a Citation Without Appearing in Court
Certain traffic citations may be resolved through Ohio's Traffic Violations Bureau without a court appearance. If your citation qualifies, payment may be made:
- Online
- By Phone
- By Mail
- In person
Payment must be received by the Clerk's Office before the court date and time listed on your citation.
Full payment is required. Partial payments cannot be accepted.
Court records update every 24 hours. If you missed your court date, check your case status after that time. If your citation is no longer eligible for payment, you must appear at the Clerk's Office. Additional fees, a warrant, or BMV license forfeiture/block actions may apply.
Multiple Charges on a Citation
A citation may contain up to seven separate charges. If you are waiving your court appearance, ensure that all charges are paid. Multiple charges may appear as separate case numbers with letter suffixes (for example: TRD1000001A, TRD1000001B, TRD1000001C).
Proof of Insurance
Ohio law requires proof of insurance.
- If proof of insurance was shown to the officer at the time of the violation, no further action is required.
- If proof was not provided, the Court must notify the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), which will contact you directly.
Failure to respond to the BMV may result in a driver's license suspension.
Do not send proof of insurance to the Court after payment.
Citations That Do Not Qualify
A court appearance is required for citations involving:
- Any felony or indictable offense
- Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs (OVI)
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Driving under suspension or without a valid license (except licenses expired less than six months)
- Speeding with one or more prior moving violation(s) within one year
- Speeding in a school zone
- Speed more than 20 MPH over the posted limit
- Speed over 50 MPH in city limits
- Eluding/fleeing a police officer
- Drag racing
- Physical control violations
- Illegal license plates
- Passing a stopped school bus
- Certain railroad crossing violations
- Reckless operation of a motor vehicle
- Overload violations
Paying After a Court Appearance
Fines and court costs may be paid through the Clerk's Office before your scheduled court date. If you miss your court date, you must appear in person, as a warrant, additional fees, or BMV actions may have been issued.
Final Authorization
By submitting payment, you:
- Plead Guilty to all charges listed on the citation.
- Waive your right to a court appearance and trial.
- Understand that payment closes the case.
- Understand that applicable points will still be assessed to your driver's license and reported to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
